答：一般而言，最高級形容詞或副詞（adverb）須冠以the，例如：（1）He seems to be the happiest
man in the world（他似乎是世上最快樂的人）。（2）Which
of these three watches is the most valuable ?（這三隻手錶，哪一隻最值錢？）
不過，說某人、某事物在不同情況之下「最××」的表現，循例不用the，例如：（1）The air is freshest in the
morning（空氣早上最清新）。（2）A poet
writes best when he is really moved（詩人真正有動於中的時候，所寫的詩篇最好）。讀者說的第一句，正是這類句子，happiest之前不可以加the。
現在說第二句，most可以解作「最」或「十分」：假如解作「最」，一般須冠以the；解作「十分」，則不用the，例如：（1）This
is the most important case I have ever handled（我處理過的事情，這一宗最重要）。（2）He is a most diligent man（他是個十分勤奮的人）。讀者說的第二句，那most是「十分」的意思，所以不應加the，但以下一句則應用the：Many people have offered us their help. Your help is the
most important（不少人答應給我們援手，而你的援手最為重要）。
